At Lawrence's request, publication.was withheld until after 1950. This is the first English edition, published in 1955 as a limited issue, and contains the partially expurgated text (by which is meant that "objectionable" words have been omitted from the text, leaving blank spaces - the words were restored in the 1973 definitive edition). The book is bound in blue buckram, with the top edge stained blue, and plain eps. Citation added by previous owners in 2000
